The German side, fresh off a tough quarter-final exit in Euro 2024 against Spain, showcased their talent with a new generation of players. Four veteran players Toni Kroos, Thomas Müller, Ilkay Gündogan, and Manuel Neuer—had recently retired from international football, but the fresh faces on the field didn't disappoint.
Germany started strong in Dusseldorf, immediately applying pressure. In the 20th minute, Musiala set up Niclas Fullkrug for a great scoring chance, but Hungary's goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi made a key save. However, just seven minutes later, Fullkrug finally got his goal. Wirtz started the play by cutting into the box and passing to David Raum, who quickly fed Musiala. Musiala then squared the ball to Fullkrug, who slotted it home.
Germany maintained their momentum in the second half. Musiala, already with an assist under his belt, scored a fantastic solo goal in the 57th minute. He carried the ball from his own half, dribbled past Hungary's Bendegúz Bola, and finished with a precise shot.
Nine minutes later, Musiala was at it again, setting up Wirtz with a pass just outside the box. Wirtz took his time and fired a shot from 18 yards, making it 3-0.
In the 77th minute, Aleksandar Pavlovic scored his first international goal, thanks to yet another assist from Musiala. The final goal came in the 81st minute when Kai Havertz converted a penalty, sealing Germany’s commanding 5-0 victory.
