Severe Rainfall in Gujarat and Western Rajasthan
Gujarat and Western Rajasthan are facing intense rainfall, causing significant disruption. Heavy rains have also lashed Western and Central Maharashtra, including Mumbai, as well as Goa. The India Meteorological Department has issued warnings for heavy to very heavy rainfall across several states.
Worsening Flood Situation Across the Country
The situation has deteriorated in many parts of the country due to relentless rainfall and flooding, especially in central and western regions. In Gujarat, continuous rain over the past two days has created flood-like conditions in several districts, including Ahmedabad. The weather department has issued alerts for the next two to three days, warning of heavy rains and potential flash floods in Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Goa, and Maharashtra.
Tragic Incidents in Morbi and Other Affected Areas
In Morbi, a tractor trolley was swept away while crossing a flooded river. Ten people were rescued, but seven are still missing. In Jammu and Kashmir's Ramban district, a woman and her two children were swept away by sudden flooding caused by a cloudburst.
Flooding in Gujarat has impacted large populations across many districts, with three people losing their lives in rain-related incidents. In Morbi, a tractor trolley carrying 17 people was swept away on Sunday night due to strong water currents. Rescue teams from NDRF and SDRF are searching for the seven missing people. In Navsari's Khergam area, 356 millimeters of rain was recorded in just 24 hours, the highest in the state.
The Sardar Sarovar Dam has opened 23 out of 30 gates to release excess water into the Narmada River. As a precaution, 280 people from low-lying areas in Bharuch have been moved to safer locations. So far, 17,800 people trapped in flood-hit areas have been rescued. Schools in the state have been closed due to the floods. Union Home Minister Amit Shah assured Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel of full support from the central government.
Flood Situation in Tripura Worsens, Central Help Requested
The flood situation in Tripura is critical, prompting the state government to seek assistance from the central government. With heavy rain expected over the next two days, the situation could worsen. The Gomati River is flowing above the danger mark, and around 70,000 people are currently staying in 471 relief camps.
Kedarnath Trek Reopened
The pedestrian route to Kedarnath via Gaurikund has been reopened after 26 days. The 19-kilometer path was damaged by a landslide on July 31, leaving 11,000 pilgrims stranded. All have since been safely rescued, and the route is now open for travel.
Rain Brings Relief to Delhi-NCR, Causes Minor Disruptions
In Delhi-NCR, intermittent rain on Monday brought much-needed relief from the heat and made the weather pleasant. However, some roads were waterlogged, causing minor inconveniences for commuters. In Himachal Pradesh, heavy rains and landslides have led to the closure of 41 roads, and 211 power projects are currently non-operational.
