Growth in the Pre-Owned Car Market
Volkswagen’s used car business has seen a remarkable 10x growth in volume over the past five years, establishing itself as a leading pre-owned car retail brand in India. The rebranding initiative aims to further enhance the visibility and value of the pre-owned car program in the Indian market. The first rebranded ‘Volkswagen Certified Pre-Owned’ showroom has opened in Coimbatore.
Focus on Quality and Trust
Volkswagen Certified Pre-Owned will continue to operate its successful multi-brand pre-owned car business, emphasizing Volkswagen-branded models. This program will offer refurbishment, certification, and warranties for cars sold through this channel. The goal is to create a unique value proposition with a frictionless and fully digitized customer experience.

Mr. Ashish Gupta, Brand Director of Volkswagen Passenger Cars India, expressed his excitement about the Autofest Mega Exchange Carnival: “Today, we are delighted to announce the start of Autofest Mega Exchange Carnival that will give customers a chance to upgrade to a new Volkswagen car. With Autofest, customers can avail exciting deals and offers that are available for a limited time period.”

Increasing Demand for Pre-Owned Cars
The rebranding comes at a time of growing demand for pre-owned cars, as consumers seek aspirational vehicles at more accessible prices. The former ‘Das WeltAuto.’ brand has seen a ten-fold growth in volume over the past five years. Retail sales of pre-owned cars grew by 12% last year, a trend continuing into the first half of 2024. Tier 2 towns have been a significant driver of this growth.
Strong Resale Performance
The recently launched 6th Edition of the Indian Blue Book established the residual value of the Volkswagen Taigun at over 81% after two years, offering customers strong resale performance.
Expanding Footprint
Currently, Volkswagen India operates 139 touchpoints trading in certified pre-owned cars across the country, with 36 of these being exclusive certified pre-owned outlets. Volkswagen plans to expand this footprint in a phased manner by March 2025.
