On June 25th, Microsoft released the KB5039302 update for Windows 11, bringing a few minor but noteworthy improvements for users. Here’s a breakdown of what’s new:
Gradual Rollout Changes
- Game Pass Recommendation: A new “Game Pass” recommendation card has been added to the Settings home page.
This is available on both Home and Pro editions of Windows 11, but you’ll only see it if you’re logged in with your Microsoft account and actively playing games.
- Emoji 15.1 Support: Windows now supports new emojis, including symbol-like shapes for various family constellations and new emojis like horizontal and vertical head shaking, phoenix, lime, brown mushroom, and a broken chain.
- Show Desktop” Button: The “Show desktop” button is back by default in the taskbar. You can change this setting by right-clicking the taskbar and selecting Taskbar settings.
- File Explorer Updates: You can now create 7-Zip and TAR files through the context menu in File Explorer. Right-click a file and use the “Compress to file” option with tools like gzip and bzip2.
There’s also a new compression wizard for selecting additional formats and details. Plus, you can now copy files directly from the Windows Share window by clicking the new Copy button.
- New Account Manager: This update starts the rollout of a new Account Manager in the Start menu. When signed in with a Microsoft account, you’ll see an overview of your account benefits and easily manage account settings.
Immediate Rollout Changes
- Snipping Tool Fix: Microsoft has fixed a problem with the Snipping Tool where recorded video sound was distorted.
- USB Device Ejection: Improvements have been made to safely eject USB devices.
