The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested a journalist in Hazaribagh, Jharkhand, on Saturday in connection with the NEET-UG paper leak case. The journalist, Jamaluddin, who works for a Hindi newspaper, was allegedly involved in aiding the principal and vice principal of Oasis School, who were arrested the previous day.
Oasis School's principal, Ehsanul Haque, and vice principal, Imtiaz Alam, were detained due to their suspected involvement in the paper leak. Alam, serving as the National Testing Agency's (NTA) observer and the centre coordinator for Oasis School, is being scrutinized along with five other individuals from the district. The principal was the district coordinator for the NEET exam conducted by the NTA on May 5.
Meanwhile, in Gujarat, CBI teams conducted searches at seven locations in Godhra, Kheda, Ahmedabad, and Anand, targeting various suspects linked to the case. This action stems from an FIR initially investigated by the Godhra police.
On June 27, the CBI made its first arrests in this case, detaining two individuals from Patna, Ashutosh Kumar and Manish Kumar. They allegedly facilitated a location where exam-takers were provided with the leaked NEET question paper and answer keys. The CBI registered its first FIR on June 23, following the education ministry's decision to transfer the probe into the alleged exam irregularities to the central agency.
