Microsoft's AI chatbot, once known as Bing Chat, has now been rebranded as Microsoft Copilot. The company just made a big upgrade to its free version by giving all Copilot users access to the powerful OpenAI model GPT-4 Turbo at no extra cost.
Before, only Pro users could use this advanced language model. Now, to tap into GPT-4 Turbo's magic, all you have to do is pick the Copilot discussion style and choose between creative or precise modes.
But don't worry if you're a Copilot Pro user and prefer the old version; Microsoft made it easy to switch back with a simple toggle. Mikhail Parakhin, the big boss at Microsoft's advertising and web services division, officially spilled the beans on this update regarding X.
According to Parakhin, "After lots of hard work, GPT4-Turbo is now taking the lead over GPT-4 in the Copilot free tier." And for Pro users, you still have the freedom to pick the previous version if that's your jam.
A Microsoft rep confirmed that GPT-4 Turbo is now jazzing up the Copilot experience in Creative mode, especially for folks who are using it for free. And for Copilot Pro customers, you can decide whether you want GPT-4 Turbo in Creative mode or not.
GPT-4 Turbo, trained on data up to April 2023, can handle text-to-speech prompts and boasts a whopping 128,000-token context window, the largest among all GPT versions.
With this bigger token capacity, you can feed the model more text, which means it understands context better and gives more accurate results.
Copilot, which debuted last year, brings AI smarts to various Microsoft platforms like Bing, Windows 11, Edge browser, and Microsoft 365. Copilot Pro costs $20 per month per user and offers access to fancy AI features in Office apps, priority access to new OpenAI models, and snazzy image creation tools. Microsoft says Copilot Pro is your go-to for writing, coding, researching, and learning.
